Unless the world turns upside down and everything as we know it is gone, I will not be coaching at all next year. If there is a MS team and the coach wants me to I'll be happy to be a liaison at SMS, but I won't be going to matches or practices. Until I am through with school, I simply will not have time for any extracurricular activities on a regular basis. I have loved getting to know all the youth that I have coached in the past and will miss being a part of their life. But time moves on and I need to do the same.

Thank you to all the parents. No one could ever possibly have any better wrestling parents then I did. You guys are wonderful and you are a huge part of the reason that stepping down has been so difficult.

2009-2010 MS and AAU

Chris Gooden has been given head coaching responsibilities for AAU and MS. So far this year we have Curtis Adams and Shane Grinstead helping at practices. Ryan Reeder is doing the paperwork for both and is doing some of the HS paperwork as well.

So far this year we have about 25 kids signed up. Not bad for a year with so many changes. Glad to see the little ones out there and enjoying themselves.

Couple of notes:

Practices are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. All MS need to attend at least two of these and are welcome and encouraged to attend all three.

If there is no school then there is no practice unless specifically told otherwise. This does not include weekend tournaments.

The cost this year is $35 per quarter, plus tournament fees. Payment of at least $12 needs to be paid before the youth gets on the mat. Quarters are as follows. Nov -Jan, Feb - April, May -July, Aug- Oct.

The availability of the summer quarter will depend on the number of youth interested.

Shoes are the responsibility of the wrestler and/or his parents.

Transportation is the responsibility of the wrestler's parents.

All practices are held at the SCHS wrestling cage, from 5:30 til 7:30pm.

Middle School wrestling team

After talking to Chris Gooden, the HS coach, we have a working plan in place. Chris is planning on taking over MS duties. I have agreed to continue working with the MS team as an Assistant Coach in charge of paperwork and communication between parents and coaches as well as communication between coaches and SMS administration.

Change in direction

Coach Reeder will no longer be coaching the Middle School team. I have agonized over this decision for over a year now and after much prayer and time with God I have decided that I need to spend more time with my wife and my church family.

I can not express how much I love and care for my wrestling family. I have had some of the best wrestlers and parents a coach could ever imagine.

I hope that someone will step in and take over as coach. If not, we'll try to get them plugged in somewhere.

I hope to still work with AAU tournament season.

Fundraiser at Wal-mart

Chris Wolff, Angel (manager, not my wife), Coach Gooden, and Coach Reeder worked the fundraiser. We worked from 8am til about 4:30 (when we ran out of food). We made a profit of $209.52!!!! I was very surprised when I got home and Angel (my wife) counted the money.

It is amazing how wore out you get selling hamburgers. Thank you to everyone who helped and everyone who purchased from our stand or donated money.

Fundraising event

Walmart no longer allows car washes. We still have the sidewalk for our fundraiser. We are planning on cooking hamburgers and selling lunch on the sidewalk. Same day, Saturday, May 30, 9am to 2pm. We are thinking: Cooking hamburgers, small bags of chips, drinks, and brownies (or whatever our parents bring). If anyone has any suggestions or can make a donation please call Coach Reeder. Thanks.

Spring Nationals

Nate wrestled at the AAU Spring Nationals in Kingsport, TN this past weekend.

His first match was against the WV state champ. Nate went all 3 periods and lost by points. He pinned his next two kids in 10 and 20 seconds. This got him back to the consolation finals, where he had to wrestle the same kid from WV. This time Nate went the full 3 periods and lost by points.

Nate placed 4th.

Joel was his coach for the day.

Nate had a great year and Joel has been a great help with the coaching.

I would like to thank all the coaches that helped this year, especially Curtis, Chris, and Joel.

Over the last 6 years Curtis and I have met many wrestling parents and heard horror stories from other coaches about parents. We want you to know that we have always had the best parents we could possibly imagine. Thank you for being understanding when we mess up and most of all, thank you for just being there at all. You may never know what that means to your kids.

09-10 Meeting

We just held the 2009-2010 wrestling meeting to go over our plans for spring and summer practice.

Team cook-out. At city park. Date to be announced.

Until the end of the school year the wrestling cage will be open on Mon 3:30-?, Wed 5:00-?, and Fri 5:00-?. We have a weight room and mats rolled out. All wrestlers are invited to attend as many of these open mat sessions as possible; high school, middle school, and aau. Anyone getting on the mat must have an AAU card. You need to bring a journal to keep track of when you come and the progress you are making. Lets encourage our teammates and make each other better. Who's gonna step up and be a leader?!?!?!?

We will be having a car wash at Wal-Mart before the end of school. Date for car wash is Sat May 30. We will begin selling tickets very shortly. This will pay for us to attend the Wade Schalles clinic.

June 8-12, SCHS and PFHS will be hosting a wrestling clinic with Wade Schalles. Even though Chris is helping to host this clinic, we still will be required to bring our wrestlers. Cost is $1500 for the entire team. As soon as this is over we will start summer practice probably with Pigeon Forge. This will consist of some weeks of practice and a dual tournament to finish it off. Then we will get back to working out in the weight room and open mats.

Wolf Pack dues are to be paid on March 30th. SCWC will pay 50 dollars toward Wolf Pack dues to any 9th, 10th, and 11th graders for wrestling in the AAU district, region, and the state tournament.

Example: if you wrestled in 1 tournament you get 50 dollars, if you wrestled in 2 tournaments you get 100 dollars, and if you wrestled in 3 tournaments you get 150 dollars.

SCWC is planning on hosting a tournament this fall. The tournament will hopefully have 4 divisions; middle school, freshman, junior varsity, and a girls high school division.

SCWC is planning on hosting another tournament next spring during the AAU schedule. We need to start planning for this about October.

SCHS is emplementing a point system to keep wrestlers accountable for and get credit for work they put in towards getting better as an athlete and as a wrestler. They also get credit on the point system for any work towards fundraising efforts. This will be a great thing and will help wrestlers to know where they stand with the team and with the coaches.

In your journal you should be writing what your goals are for the upcoming year.

Big Kids State Tournament

Nate, Aaron, Josh, and Andrew wrestled in the Big Kid State Tournament this weekend.

Nate went 2-2 finishing just out of the medal round. Aaron went 1-2. Josh went 0-2. Andrew went 1-2.

Alcoa Tournament

Javan and Eli wrestled in the Alcoa Tournament this weekend. Eli was the only one in his age and weight so he recieved a gold medal. He wrestled in two exhibition matches. He lost the first match 14-4 against a midget. He lost his second against a bantam in the first period.

Javan was in a three man round robin. He won his first match and lost his second. He recieved Second place.

Wrestling Meeting

All youth interested in wrestling next year for Sevier County Middle or Sevier County High School and their parents are encouraged to attend a meeting on Tuesday March 24th at 5:00pm in the wrestling cage at Sevier County High School.

We are looking to set up a schedule for off-season workouts and we need commitments from wrestlers and commitments from volunteer coaches to make this time as profitable as possible.

Cumberland Co Junior results

Nate McGinnis and Aaron Riedel attended the Cumberland Co Big Kids tournament on March 14th. Nate went 2-0 with one win by major pts and one win by pin. He placed first.

Aaron went 2-1 with two wins by major pts and a loss by pin. He placed second.

Both wrestled great.

Looking forward to Junior and MS State on 21st.

None of our pee wees were up for driving to Dickson Co, so we took the weekend off. Pee Wees will be in action on the 21st at Alcoa.

Results Emerald Youth Tourney

Chris and Gage, both wrestling for the first time, went 0-2 finishing 3rd. They both wrestled really well for their first matches. They both improved in their second match of the day. The most you can expect from someone with just 1 or 2 practices is for them to go out there, be aggresive, try their best and not quit. Both of these did all that and now they have a feel for what wrestling in a real match is like.

Stephen won 1 and lost 2 placing 3rd.

James won 2 and lost 1 placing 2nd.

Michael won 1 and lost 1 placing 2nd.

All did just fine and we should be proud.

Long tournament. I think they had more kids than they had planned for. Next year, I imagine, they will split into sessions. Live and learn.

Beginners Tourney

Pray for our kids tommorrow. Some of them will be wrestling for the first time. They are going to Emerald Youth Beginners Tourney. Michael, James, Stephen, Gage, Chris, and Aaron are competing, and for 3 of them this is their first match.

Pray that God will calm their nerves, give them the courage to compete, and help them cope with the results. Good or bad.

Mountaineer Invitational Results

We went to the Mountaineer Invitaional on Feb 7th.

Nate wrestled 4 matches as a Junior.

He pinned his first match in 1:14, he won his second 11-0, he pinned his third in :39, and he pinnned his 4th in :15

Stephen wrestled 4 matches as MS.

He was pinned in :54, he pinned his second in 1:50, he was pinned in his third match, and he pinned his fourth in 3:40

Dylan wrestled 3 matches as MS.

He was pinned in 1:03, he was pinned in 2:30, and he won his third 2-4

Dylan tied for 2nd, after criteria he placed 4th

Heritage called yesterday and invited us to the Mountaineer Invitational on Feb 7th, this weekend. Heritage tells me that Blount County schools are going to Heritage. I texted PF and they said they are going to Heritage. Sounds like no MS is going to Bearden.

This does change our times though.

Check flier in right hand column. Some 6th graders will be able to wrestle as Juniors instead of having to wrestle MS.

If the changes mean that you cannot go, I understand.

We are encouraging anyone interested in wrestling in our spring program to come to SCHS on any Tues or Thurs between 5 and 7. We will be in the wrestling cage up above the basketball court in the high school gym.

2009 County Championship

Tonight we wrestled against Pigeon Forge for the county championship. Without Seymour it was just a two way match. The results were as follows. 77 Adams won 16-1, 88 Jacob Medlen-King lost 17-15, 112 Dylan Ford lost by pin in 3:19, 120 Josh Thomas won by pin in 3:45, 127 James Brooks lost 18-7, 135 Ryan Moore lost 18-1, 143 Brandon Mendez lost by pin in 1:28, 163 Michael Rayfield lost by pin in 1:50. We forfeited 5 matches plus hwt which was a double ff. Pigeon Forge won the dual 59-11.

We also wrestled 7 exhibition matches. Adams lost 10-2, Medlen-King lost by pin in 1:32, Ford won 2-3, Thomas won by pin in 1:48, Brooks won 1-6, Moore lost 10-0, and Stephen Gibson lost by pin in 1:10.

AAU signups

Anyone interested in wrestling in our Spring AAU season should come to SCHS on Wednesday, January the 21st or Thursday, January the 22nd between 6:00 and 7:00pm.

We accept kids from 5 yrs old through High School.

AAU practice will start on Tuesday the 26th.

Practices will be 5:30 - 7:30pm Tuesday and Thursday through March.

All wrestlers need to purchase wrestling shoes, available on line or at Dick's Sporting Goods in Knoxville.

The team can loan head gear and singlet or you can purchase your own. These would need to be purchased on line.

Hosting a Tournament

On February 28th, Sevier County Wrestling will be hosting a tournament at Sevierville Middle School.

All coaches and parents from K-12 will be needed to pull this off.

Coach Gooden and Reeder will be getting with the parents and working together we can do this.

County Championship and other finishing the season

January 15th we will by wrestling PFMS @ PFHS. We might be wrestling Kingston as well.

After that we will finish off the dual season with Maryville and Heritage @ PFHS.

The MS region individual tournament will be held @ Bearden on February the 7th.

IF you are not continuing into the AAU season then the MS Region will be your last date.
